The list of athletes for the “DREAM BOXING/ KOK’122 World Series” fight show, taking place on October 19 at Arena Riga, has been expanded to include light heavyweight boxer Ralfs Vilcans (17-1, 7 KOs), who was crowned WBA Continental Champion in April in Germany.
The 30-year-old athlete is scheduled for an eight-round bout against Ukrainian boxer Petro Lakotskiy (3-5, 3 KOs), who is six years younger and currently resides in Poland. Despite Lakotskiy’s limited experience in professional boxing, he is considered a dangerous opponent, having notable wins over experienced boxers such as Mateusz Tryc (15-2, 7 KOs) and Przemyslaw Gorgon (17-14-2, 6 KOs), both of whom he knocked out.
Vilcans acknowledges the risks of agreeing to fight Lakotskiy, which is why he has enlisted high-level sparring partners, including Ukrainian Bogdan Sobol (18-0, 8 KOs) and Dutch fighter Artjom Kasparyan (10-0, 8 KOs), among others, to prepare for the match.
“I understand that my opponent is ranked lower than me, and a win against him is unlikely to improve my world ranking, but I know he’s coming to Latvia to seriously fight, so we’re preparing thoroughly. We’ve brought in good sparring partners, both local and international. Right now, I feel in great shape and am eagerly waiting for fight day,” Vilcans said.
Vilcans, who spent the last two years fighting in the super middleweight division, winning the Latvian champion belt, will now compete in a higher weight class—light heavyweight. It was in this weight class that, six months ago in Germany, he defeated Shefat Isufi (38-5-2, 24 KOs) to become the WBA Continental Champion.
Thanks to his latest victory, Ralfs is currently ranked 49th in the world light heavyweight division according to boxrec.com, and he hopes to move closer to the global top 10 in the future.
